 Introduction

South Africa is renowned for its rich heritage of wildlife and natural beauty. As South Africans, we are well aware of our good fortunes and have established several protected areas to conserve our natural resources. Our most famous park is the Kruger National Park but every park has something unique to offer. No visit to South Africa will be complete without a visit to at least one of the parks. Most of the parks have the “Big Five” to offer - Buffalo, Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Rhinoceros. The national parks are justly renowned for the incredible natural heritage they conserve. Few people are aware, however, that certain parks also guard and preserve a rich cultural heritage that includes several important archaeological sites. Nature trails and game-drives are offered by most of the parks and provide an opportunity to commune closely with nature.

Whichever you may choose, prepare yourself for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure! Several of the national parks offer conference facilities. During the daytime, delegates can concentrate on the matters at hand, knowing that nature is literally on the doorstep. Relax after a hard day’s discussions and let the atmosphere, so inspiringly unique to each park, rejuvenate you. Venues at most of the parks can be adapted and used either boardroom or theatre style or as an auditorium, depending on the conference requirements. All venues have standard audiovisual equipment although delegates are welcome to bring their own equipment. Both overnight packages and day conference packages are available and prior arrangements can be made for special dietary requirements. Reservations should preferably be made one year in advance.

National Parks
There are 20 national parks in South Africa, some of which are still in the development phase. Combined with a large number of provincial, regional and privately owned reserves, these conservation areas present the visitor to South Africa with a virtual treasure trove of wildlife.
