On the hinter side
of the Waterberg, 4 700 ft above sea level, hikers can
enjoy a two day circular hike in a true farm environment.
On this extensive Bonsmara cattle ranch, maize and tobacco
are also cultivated. Hikers will experience the African
landscpe in all its fascinating and tranquil beauty
and will be rewarded by a rich variety of wildlife,
bird life and flora on the farm. A bonus for hikers
is that the farm lies much higher than surrounding farms,
resulting in milder temperatures than are usual for
the Transvaal bushveld. More than 800 plant species
have been identified and hikers and plant lovers will
observe the sound veld management for which this ranch
is famous. In excess of 300 bird species occur in this
area, 156 of which have been recorded by the owners.
Game species endemic to this area such as kudu, impala,
red hartbeest, blesbok, steenbok, warthog, bushpig and
antbear could be encountered.
The trails can be approached from two sides, with accommodation
offered in two restored farmhouses, Zebra and Kudu lodges.
The trail meanders up and over the koppies where the
white Kalahari sand and the reddish Waterberg sandstone
divide can be clearly seen. Different trees are in bloom
throughout the year.
